Web publishing in the Faculty of Arts
Hosting Facilities
Hosting provided by ArtsIT
The majority of web publishing within the Faculty of Arts is hosted on the Arts webserver and supported by ArtsIT. ArtsIT provides the hosting facility and advice on how best to use that facility. Maintenance of sites is the responsibility of the organisational unit publishing the website.
ArtsIT provides the following support:
- Creation & deletion of FTP accounts for web maintainers
- Web log statistics reporting with AWSTATS - Visit the AWSTATS website
- Short term file back-up (3 months) & emergency file restoration
At the direction of webmaster ArtsIT can provide:
- IP restriction to campus vewing only for specified directories
- Password protection for specified directories
- URL re-directions & re-writes
ArtsIT does not provide:
- Long term archival of websites
- Ongoing web maintenance services
- Infrastructure or software for intranet sites
Hosting provided by CWIS (Information Services)
Members of the Arts Faculty may also choose to host their site centrally on the servers provided by CWIS - Campus Wide Information Systems - centrally managed infrastructure for web hosting of organisational unit websites.
Support, training & advice
The Web Help Desk can be used to report web problems. These reports will be attended to by the Systems Administrator or the Web Manager.
Please contact the Web Manager for:
- queries regarding web publishing or hosting within the Faculty
- advice on software & applications for web development and maintenance
- training, support and trouble-shooting with the use of Macromedia Dreamweaver
- training, support and trouble-shooting on producing graphics and images for the web
- advice on hiring web development staff
- advice on designing professional development plans for web publishing staff.
- advice on website re-development including project planning, information architecture and development strategies
- advice on how to implement University web guidelines and the web templates
- advice on web accessibility and usability
- ideas, advice and training on using web based technologies for teaching and learning purposes.
