Getting Started with University Computer Systems
Welcome to ArtsIT's step-by step guide to getting set up on the computer systems. Some of these steps are handled by the University - Information Services and some by the Faculty - ArtsIT (Room 143, Old Arts).
Remember: if you get stuck at any point please contact the ArtsIT Hotline for assistance:

1. The first step
Make sure you have a staff id number (employee number). If you don't know your staff number you should contact your school manager or Human Resources, 2nd Floor, Raymond Priestly building.
2. Setting up an email account
Central email accounts are handled by Information Services. An email account will automatically be generated the day after your staff id is created. For instruction on using and activating your email account go to http://www.infodiv.unimelb.edu.au/email/staff/. This can be done on any computer on campus.
3. Setting up a Themis account
Themis is the University's web based HR system. It allows you to manage tasks such as your personal details, training applications and leave applications. Supervisors should inform ArtsIT at least 24 hours before a new staff member requires access to the server.
4. Setting up your own computer
Talk to your school manager about getting access to and setting up your own computer. They will organise this with either a local LITE (Local Information Technology Expert) or ArtsIT.
5. Find out who can provide you with IT support
Ask your school manager who provides your IT support. This will either be a LITE for your school (Local Information Technology Expert), or ArtsIT. This will be your first port of call with most IT problems.

6. Set up your Web Help Desk account
Any member of staff in the Arts Faculty may use the services of the Web Help Desk. It allows you to report an IT problem to ArtsIT and then track the progress of the problem resolution. Contact the ArtsIT Hotline to set up a Web Help Desk account and then view How to use the Web Help Desk before the first time you use it.
8. Familiarise yourself with Information Services
If interested, you can learn about the Information Services: Services for University Staff.
9. Familiarise yourself with the services of ArtsIT
Besides providing IT support, ArtsIT provides a number of services for all staff in the Faculty. We invite you to explore the ArtsIT website and view Information for all Arts staff.
